Transforming Connectivity at Gauteng City College
The Challenge.
Gauteng City College, a fast-growing institution dedicated to shaping future leaders through quality education, was facing challenges in providing reliable, high-speed internet across its campuses. With growing student numbers, online learning platforms, and cloud-based administrative systems, the college needed to upgrade its IT infrastructure to support:
- Campus-wide Wi-Fi coverage
- Stable and secure network access for students and staff
- A robust backbone to support cloud applications, VoIP, and e-learning
- Improved network segmentation to separate academic, admin, and guest traffic
Their existing setup was inconsistent, with weak signal zones, limited device support, and frequent network congestion.
The Solution by Bridge IT
Bridge IT conducted a comprehensive site assessment and designed a solution tailored to the college’s unique layout, user load, and digital goals.
Key solutions implemented included:
- 🛰 Deployment of Enterprise-Grade Access Points: Installed and configured high-performance Unifi Pro Wi-Fi access points, delivering blanket coverage across lecture halls, labs, offices, and student common areas.
- 🧠 Network Segmentation & VLAN Setup: Created separate VLANs for administration, academic services, students, and guests, ensuring better security, speed prioritization, and bandwidth management.
- 🔌 Cabling & Infrastructure: Rewired outdated cabling with high-speed CAT6 Ethernet, strategically routed to ensure clean installations, improved throughput, and future expansion.
- 📡 Failover Connectivity: Implemented fiber internet with LTE failover routers, ensuring classes and admin services continued without interruption, even during provider outages.
- 🔍 Centralized Monitoring & Control: Integrated access points and network devices into a single-pane dashboard for real-time monitoring, troubleshooting, and usage analytics
